In collaboration with Cervantes Institute London, we continue with our cycle Authors in Search of a Reader presenting to English readers great but still unknown Latin American writers. In this live programme we discuss the work of an essential novelist in the Spanish speaking world: Juan Carlos Onetti. A somber but dazzling narrator where nothingness and life senselessness become seductive and even addictive propositions. Winner in 1980 of The Cervantes Prize for Literature and an existentialist even before the French thought of it. We spoke with one of his English translators, Nick Caistor plus Uruguayan professor at St Andrews University, Gustavo San Roman. And if you have never heard of Onetti, this programme is for you. With Ignacio Peyró and Juan Toledo
