Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith formed a partnership in England and on June 19, 1947 began a new company known as “Lesney Products.”

Lesney’s toys were packaged in a small cardboard box with a printed picture and name of the toy on the box top.  Lesney’s small toy boxes so closely resembled a “match box” that they soon became known as “Match Box Toys” In 1953, “Matchbox” became the registered trademark for Lesney Products line of toys.

Matchbox, under Mattel's ownership, continues today producing quality replicas of cars that would fit inside a “Matchbox” and other replicas!

Matchbox has created many great models that have gone on to be valuable collectibles and to help you make sure you’re adding pieces with future value to your collection, I’ve created a FREE Report on “Tips for Valuing Your Collection” So go on and grab your FREE copy at the link above.
