Today I'm so happy to talk to Lisa Avery!

As a positive psychologist, coach and writer, Lisa helps individuals connect with the unique passion and purpose that drives their personal and professional success. She is fascinated by what propels a person to pursue their vocation, entwining their innate strengths, values and interests to serve both themselves and the rest of the world. She fuses the art of Coaching with the science of Positive Psychology to help individuals gain the clarity, confidence and courage to become all they aspire to be.

A few things we talked about:

  • Thoughts lead to
    Emotions that lead to
    Behavior.
Identify your thoughts, your emotions, and it will be easier to change your behavior. We have the power to make changes.
  • We need to accept that negative emotions are part of our existence:
Anger protects us from potential harm,
Sadness is the time to turn in towards ourselves
  • The Key is to try to label the emotions as clearly and concisely as possible
  • Express them rather than repress them

How can we start feeling better?
  1. Start journaling. You might feel more sad for the first four days, but after that you'll start feeling better.
  2. Define your:
    Strength
    Personality
    Values
Moments of flow (the things you enjoy doing where time comes to a standstill)
  3. You can feel positive emotions with; engagement, relationships, meaning, and Accomplishment. Find out what things you're good at by taking a quiz at The University of Pennsylvania VIA survey and get to know yourself better.
  4. You can take the personality test to find out more great things about yourself.
