Donna M. Scheuren, Vice President of the Souderton School District, joins the Dom Giordano Program to explain how the Souderton School District has been able to safely remain open in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic. First, Giordano and Scheuren discuss the mindset that the school district employed when the pandemic first began, explaining that the board refuses to do anything besides put the children first. Scheuren explains that last July, the board told the Superintendent that they were adamant in returning to in-person schooling in September. After making this statement, the board released a questionnaire to parents, finding the best way to proceed with in-person schooling. Then, Scheuren runs through the strategies employed by the district to offer safe in-person education, including tents that were brought onto school properties to further allow social distancing between students. Finally, Scheuren explains the lessons learned, with Giordano urging others to follow Souderton’s example.
