Pennsylvania Representative Martina White, representing portions of Philadelphia, rejoins the Dom Giordano Program to discuss a letter she penned to Councilman Isaiah Thomas regarding a proposed amendment to the Philadelphia Traffic Code. In the new amendment, Thomas hopes to curtail police violence by banning minor traffic stops, which he said criminalizes ‘driving while black.’ Giordano and White discuss the negative effects that such an edict would have, noting the value of these stops in deterring further crime. White, in the letter, also brings to light the negative financial implications such a change would incur, telling that the State could hold funds for the city’s refusal to follow a uniform state-wide traffic code.
