Dom Giordano, WPHT host and former teacher, has dedicated much of his daily show toward parents who are taking it into their own hands to push back against school boards that have a negative impact on their children. This has culminated in a weekly podcast on education, Readin', Writin', and Reason, which has allowed wonderful relationships to develop between Giordano, educators, and parents throughout the country who are speaking out against overbearing school boards.

First, Giordano welcomes in Dr. David Rubin of the Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia after the organization released new guidance concerning protocols surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. First, Dr. David Rubin tells why the hospital has decided to adjust the recommendation, and tells why schools should be approaching the Omicron variant as if it were similar to past seasonal illness, rather than treat it as we have past variants. In addition, Dr. Rubin tells about Omicron in a general sense, and tells which symptoms should trigger one to get tested.

Then, Joan Cullen, President of the Pennridge School District, rejoins the podcast to explain why she and her district have decided to welcome in the opinions of parents in determining curriculum, going against the grain of school boards prioritizing progressive ideology over the wants and needs of parents. Conflict arose last week after a policy set forth by the board caused at least one LGBTQ book, “Heather Has Two Mommies,” to be removed from school libraries for review.

In the final segment, Cullen returns with a final update on the situation, telling whether the board had decided to allow the book in school libraries, explaining her decision. In addition, Cullen reveals how Pennridge schools are approaching today’s historic January 6th Capitol riot.
