“We do have rumors in the underworld!”

We skip ahead to season 10 for the fan favorite “The Hold Up”, recorded LIVE at Madame-Con in Manhattan, Mississippi for the first “That Does Suit Madame” convention.

Superfans Mr. Matt and Mr. Chris join us as we recorded the show.

We brought the TDSM holy grail: the actual prop ashtray from Mr. Rumbold’s desk (and one of the guest hosts has never seen AYBS but we converted him through the episode!).

And don’t adjust your speakers: this episode was recorded during a rain storm outdoors among other convention attendees.

Highlighter yellow hair for Mrs. Slocombe.

Working retail: the customer is always right(?).

Did ya cinch ‘em? Let’s get some french fries.

Grace Bros is being robbed!

Too bad Mrs. Slocombe wasn’t drunk.

Wendy Richard was the same age as Mollie Sugden when AYBS premiered.

“Oh, how I wish I had gone in her place!” Oh the thirst.

And they dress up!

Peacock and Spooner try to impersonate police inspectors- and fail.

“Rabbit” = Cockney rhyming slang: = “rabbit and pork” = “pork” = “talk” (if you say it in a London accent).

The Gumby Gang: Pa Gumby, Mad Ma Gumby and Italian Tony, the Tooting Terror!

Tooting = (not flatulence) a neighbor in south London.

No more wire hangers!

Mommie Dearest is the gay classic film you need to see.

Mollie Sugden gets to do her Mae West impression!

“Mad Ma Gumby” fancies the burglar with muscles: “Pity I sold the piano”.

Cabbage = money in lots of cultures.

American accents in AYBS.

“A Letter from Camp” is a song you’ve probably heard before.

The gays make Burger King jokes about “whopper”.

Mad Ma Gumby fancies the burglar with muscles: “Pity I sold the piano”.

Mr. Rumbold’s “koala bear” is actually Basil Brush!

Basil Brush was a cartoon that taught kids their ABC’s.

Italian Tony (Mr. Humphries) gets in the burglars face (which his cracks up).

“I’m off to Bow Street” = refers to going to the police department. Mr. Jeff explains the 300 year old London reference (a metonymy).

There’s just something about a thirsty, slightly older woman that The Gays adore.

Mr. Humphries was ahead of his time!

We love the Brit-comedy “Benidorm”- watch it on Britbox!
