What No One Tells You About Why Stress is Actually Good for Us - a podcast by Emily Gough
from 2019-04-19T02:00
We've all been taught to believe that stress is bad for our health.
I've discussed this at length myself on this podcast and elsewhere: how to reduce and eliminate excess, unnecessary stress to free ourselves from the potentially harmful side effects.
However, I've always acknowledged that stress is an inevitable part of life, and it's more about what you do with it than anything else. I've never believed that more after reading The Upside of Stress, by Kelly McGonigial.
In today's podcast episode, we're talking about:
- Channelling stress and anxiety to recognize it as excitement for something meaningful rather than "bad"
- Why facing adversity is so powerful to help us learn and grow
- The difference between a challenge versus a threat (fight or flight), hows he body physically and emotionally responds to each, and how you can turn a fight or flight reaction into something positive
- Why a less stressful life does NOT equal a happy life
- Deriving meaning from our stress, and how a simple shift in mindset can completely change the way stress affects our bodies
- The number of opportunities that stress provides for us
This is an incredibly fascinating topic and there's so much to dig into!
