From existing as only a few trucks on some dirt farm roads to becoming the major source of transport in our nation, the history of trucking is impressive. The story of trucking's past is, in many ways, the story of the American economy.

Trucking helped motivate the growth of our roadways, therefore allowing the transport of goods, people and ideas. It helped us endure both World War I and World War II. Trucking also provided opportunities for the rural working class whose livelihood was lost to the growth of big farms. This industry struggled to find its place in early American history, but once it started, it couldn't be stopped. Learn just how that happened in this episode.

Thanks to Dr. Shane Hamilton for taking time to interview for this episode. Check out his book, Trucking Country: The Road to America's Walmart Economy.
