When the world heard those prophetic words from Melle Mel most were being introduced to a reality that had been skillfully hidden from them until the advent of Hip Hop as a medium and the video as a vehicle would give the world a peep into the inner city dealings of the Rotten Apple. 

In a short amount of time..a Universal roll call would be answered by emcees from various parts of the country who gave us a front row view of what was taking place in their hood. 

Before long, we found out the world was a ghetto. Not only was broken glass everywhere, but broken homes and by proxy broken people littered the landscape everywhere you looked.  

How does one develop a vision of the future if the lens they are looking through is blemished, broken, shattered? 

The game is late in the innings...too late to cry...only thing we can do is pick up the pieces.
