:: ::

On this podcast we discuss approaches that can help emotionally support the burn patient during their many phases of treatment and ultimately help them reintegrate in to society. Our special guests are Lindsay DeSantis and Patrick Prag. Lindsay is a Burn program manager and has many years of experience in supporting burn patients. Patrick is a professional councilor and has been very involved in our Mental Health Series. Together we hope to build approaches that you can use to better support the complexities of caring for the burn patient, supporting them emotionally, and helping them successfully reintegrate back in to their lives.

Addendum: One of the most important recovery tools for survivors, is to help another survivor or any person. They need to feel useful, not only the recipient of good will and caring but the deliverers of such care.? Self-worth is crucial. Patients need to practice interacting in the community before they go home.  A trip with a therapist, nurse or doc to the cafeteria in the hospital may be the most important threshold for readiness for society, as simple as it sounds, this is a practiced skill, so that they can practice their own reaction or experience others’ reactions.
