Welcome to “Bible Study for Progressives,” a show where moderates, liberals and leftists of all faiths and ideologies come together to discuss scripture, spirituality and politics
On this show, we will read from the book of Ephesians and talk about the what it means to be citizens of the kingdom of God. The author of Ephesians uses the language of resistance by affirming an alternative political identity in Christ. Christ is the ruler over all things, and he gave his life to bring down the dividing walls and hostility between all the people of the world.
There has been talk of building a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, and most of the people who support building the wall call themselves Christians; but Jesus, by his death on the cross, broke down the walls of hostility that divide us. Christianity transcends national borders.
Christ brings peace to all the world, not just to Christians and Jews. Christ Jesus is the cornerstone of the movement, meaning he is the example we are to emulate. This includes committing our lives to welfare of humanity. We are to break down walls, not build them up.
