Gabriel Chan shares about growing up in Singapore, picking his career path and how his industry mentors guided his lighting design career. We highlight two of his favourite shows and why we should not forget that a standing ovation is not just for the people we see on stage.

Gabriel Chan is a painter of light and sculptor of shadows. Recipient of the NAC Overseas Bursary, he graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with First Class Honours in Lighting Design. He was awarded the Strand Lighting Scholarship, funding his training at the Metropolitan Opera (New York '09 Winter Opera Season). In 2019, Gabriel was conferred the Young Artist Award by NAC for his excellence and contribution to the performing arts.
