Shane Hiscock, founder of Locate Buyers Agency, left a secure job at IBM to follow his passion of becoming a property developer. He started by buying his family home with his wife, but soon branched out from there, using the equity in a home he had built to change careers. At first, Shane didn’t know what aspects of property to focus on. A colleague from IBM asked him to help her buy a home and told him afterwards he had acted like a buyer’s agent. Shane researched what a buyer’s agent was and became interested in it.Shane tells Buyer’s Agent Institute founder Ben Handler he was also involved in property development, especially small developments where he subdivided a block or built three or four townhouses. Eventually, he couldn’t juggle both businesses and decided to focus on being a buyer’s agent.Shane enjoys finding properties for developers, but says finding homes for owner-occupiers is much more rewarding – it’s more emotional and they’re more appreciative.Although Shane started Locate Buyers Agency just before Covid-19, he was not impacted by it. People were still buying properties and he actually had to employ more people.Shane’s advice: take numbers with a grain of salt – the people presenting the numbers may have a vested interest in them.Buyer’s Agent Institute can give you the advice you need to become your own boss and build a successful buyer’s agency business.
